FEATURED PROJECTS
7 World Trade Center
Emisstar Principal Glenn Goldstein led the 7 World Trade Center Diesel Emissions Reduction Project in Lower Manhattan. 7 World Trade was the first public-private initiative in the New York construction market focused on reducing emissions from heavy-duty diesel construction equipment, serving as a local and eventually a national model for demonstrating clean air construction. A combination of fuel and exhaust aftertreatment strategies were employed to lower the site’s diesel emissions profile, including ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel, diesel oxidation catalysts, catalyzed wire mesh filters and active diesel particulate filter retrofits. In-use emissions testing was performed in partnership with Clean Air Technologies International. The project was the feature of a CNN story about retrofit technology, received a letter of commendation from EPA Administrator Whitman and successfully completed the first ever retrofit of a construction tower crane in New York City some 40 stories above the ground.

The project at 7 World Trade continues to be recognized as a unique, groundbreaking collaboration between city, state and federal officials; community groups; construction industry professionals and diesel technology experts. Project partners included EPA, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Silverstein Properties, Clean Air Communities, Natural Resources Defense Council, Northeast States Center for a Clean Air Future and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, with initial funding donated by Consolidated Edison Co. of New York.
