Speaking Engagements

July 2008

Emisstar Principal Glenn P. Goldstein presented during the plenary session at this year’s Faster Freight Cleaner Air East Coast conference on July 8-10, in New York City. Mr. Goldstein shared some insights gained from Emisstar’s recent project experience with partners in the freight industry during the session on “Industry Case Studies: Shrinking Carbon Footprints by Moving Freight Faster and Cleaner”.

April 2008

Glenn P. Goldstein and Saeed Abolhasani - Highlights of the NYC Best Available Technology Project, New York, NY. Emisstar Principal Glenn P. Goldstein and Engineering Director Saeed Abolhasani spoke about the ambitious and groundbreaking program at the Croton Water Treatment Plant to reduce air emissions from diesel-powered equipment. Reductions of particulate matter emissions on some of the equipment was as high as 99%, well above the EPA’s 90% standard.

April 2008

Michael C. Block and Saeed Abolhasani - 2008 Coordinating Research Council On-Road Vehicle Emissions Workshop, San Diego, CA. For the third consecutive year, Emisstar Principal Michael Block has been invited to speak at the Coordinating Research Council (CRC) On-Road Vehicle Emissions Workshop, on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008, in San Diego. The presentation, entitled “Diesel Construction Equipment Database and NOx Control Technology Evaluation For Greater Houston” will highlight Emisstar’s work with Eastern Research Group (ERG) in developing a database model estimating NOx reductions for specific nonroad construction equipment using specific NOx-reduction technologies. An abstract of the presentation is available
here.

Emisstar Engineering Director Saeed Abolhasani will be also be presenting two additional Emisstar projects as poster sessions at this conference. The two sessions, entitled “Determination of Emission Factors for Truck-Mounted Concrete Pumps Using On-Board PEMS Testing” and “Cumulative Emissions Reductions From Implementing Best Available Technology (BAT) for Nonroad Diesel Construction Equipment, 2005-2007” highlight Emisstar’s seminal work with in-use portable emissions measurement and analysis. Abstracts of both poster presentation sessions are available here.

February 2008

Michael C. Block - New Technology Research & Development Workshop, Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), The Woodlands, TX. Emisstar principal Michael C. Block has been invited to present at the HARC’s New Technology Research and Development Workshop on February 13th, 2008. He will speak on a technology assessment project sponsored by the Texas Environmental Research Consortium/HARC that Emisstar and partner Eastern Research Group recently completed.

January 2008

Glenn P. Goldstein - Clean Technologies Group, New York Metropolitan Transportation Council, New York, NY. Emisstar Principal Glenn P. Goldstein outlined Implementation Strategies for Emission Reduction Measures in a presentation to the Clean Technologies Group, a policy and technology forum of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council that supports the design, funding and implementation of alternative fuel and emission control technology projects. The Group, which Mr. Goldstein co-founded in 2005, has been instrumental in guiding over $122 Million in CMAQ funds to the region for 2008-2012 projects.

December 2007

Michael C. Block and Theodore (Tod) S. Wickersham, Jr. - 2007 Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association Meeting (MECA), Washington, D.C. Emisstar Principals Michael Block and Tod Wickersham have been invited to speak at the MECA meeting in Washington, D.C. The presentation will showcase several of Emisstar’s recent project successes. An abstract of the presentation is available here.

November 2007

Theodore (Tod) S. Wickersham, Jr. - 2007 Diesel Particulate Matter Workshop, Denver, Colorado. Emisstar Principal Tod Wickersham has been invited to speak at the University of Missouri-Rolla Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM) Workshop in Denver. The presentation will highlight Emisstar’s successes in reducing DPM in the nonroad construction equipment sector and how that expertise can be applied to metal/nonmetal underground mines. New stringent regulations requiring significant reductions in miner exposure to DPM have prompted renewed interest in diesel emissions remediation through the use of diesel particulate filters, a primary area of expertise for Emisstar. The presentation is available here.

September 2007

Michael C. Block - 23rd Annual Clean Air Conference, Breckenridge, Colorado. Presentation on a recently-completed joint project with Eastern Reserach Group that utilized a novel technique for estimating emissions reductions for a number of promising NOx and multi-pollutant emission control technologies. The results were applied to a new database of diesel construction equipment in the Houston-Galveston area that will be used by air quality officials as a SIP planning tool for Ozone Attainment and by emission control technology manufacturers to assess Texas market opportunities.

August 2007

Michael C. Block and Glenn P. Goldstein - Diesel Engine & Emissions Research (DEER) Conference, Detroit, Michigan. Presentation on characterizing the in-use emissions reduction performance of novel PM and NOx control technologies on diesel construction equipment.

Kathi L. Harris - Diesel Particulate Matter Controls for Underground Metal/Non-Metal Mines, Lexington, Kentucky. Presentation on application of diesel emissions reduction controls for nonroad construction equipment.

June 2007

Michael C. Block - Nevada Mining Association/MSHA/NIOSH Workshop on DPM for Metal and Non-Metal Mines, Elko, Nevada. Presentation on original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engine technologies to meet EPA Tier 3 and Tier 4 emissions regulations.

May 2007

Theodore (Tod) S. Wickersham, Jr. - New Technology Research and Development Program, Houston, Texas. Presentation about emission control technology from the perspective of heavy duty truck owners and off-road diesel equipment operators, drawing upon Emisstar’s extensive hands-on implementation work with end users, TERP experience and research of successful national programs.
